Doggy Birthday

Dima Diamnod and I attended a beautiful doggy birthday party at the local dog run. They had balloons, doggy treats, goody bags, doggy toys and even doughnuts for the owners. A nice act of kindness.

Being Jewish

New from the oven - a new column about the "New York Jewish Film festival".

In short, I've attended the screening of Tomer Heyman's film "The Queen Has No Crown", had a small fight with the fancy woman sitting next to me (for some reason she reminded the editor of Joan Rivers, hence the photo) and mainly was deeply moved by the personal story unfolded on screen.

Doing Time, Doing Vipassana

Not being cynical, my experience at the Vipassana retreat last week was life changing. I'm still figuring out everything I went through, but I can definitely conclude that it was a jerking, emotional, thought provoking experience that was very much needed for a person like me.

In short, I went for 10 days to the Dhamma center in Shelburne, Massachusetts where I basically gave myself to Buddha. No talking, no eye contact, eating little (vegetarian food) and meditating everyday from 4:30 AM to 9:00 PM.

It was hard, both physically and emotionally, but after those draining days I feel like I'm a different person. To put it in the words of S. N. Goenka, the leading lay teacher of Vipassanā meditation, it was like I went through an operation.

Without adding to much words, here are some pictures from the beautiful center, which is surrounded by a really magical snowy forest. I think the location helped me a lot in sustaining there.
